This piece is inspired by the “double-V” sweatshirts from the 1940s and 1950s, featuring V-shaped gussets at the front and back necklines. Originally designed for practical purposes—such as preventing sweat stains and aiding stretch—these details are now cherished in the vintage market as iconic elements of vintage sweatshirts.
Its defining features are the traces of repairs made as the garment was worn over time—mending tears and wear—and severe fading that makes it difficult to discern the fabric’s original color.At BOW WOW, rather than creating overly polished reproductions, we first envision a state where the garment’s owner’s lifestyle and usage are imprinted on it over time, and we assemble it as a brand-new product that incorporates even those “traces of time.”
By combining a yellowish body faded to the point where the original color is unrecognizable with repair marks, we intentionally recreate the look often found on old sweatshirts—where it’s hard to tell whether a mark is a stain or part of the fabric’s natural patina.
